About the Job:
The Director of Operations makes things happen. You’re in the driver’s seat to make sure we’re putting on the best concerts. From planning seasons to managing budgets to negotiating contracts to making sure it all goes smoothly, the job comes down to one thing: putting on incredible shows.
-The Director of Operations plans, budgets for, and hires the people needed to create amazing seasons of orchestral music. They are a confidante of the Executive and Music Directors, and always have a seat at the table to talk about the future, how we can improve over the past, and what we need to do first.
-The Director of Operations serves as stage manager, running rehearsals and concerts, coordinating with vendors and venues, and being the boots on the ground and everyone’s first point of contact. The show must go on, and the Director of Operations makes sure it does.
-The Director of Operations makes sure everyone gets paid, from rostered musicians to the fireworks vendor to the music publishing companies.
-The Director of Operations serves as Union liaison and on the negotiating committee, oversees the librarian and crew, and advises the Board on directions for the future.
About You:
The South Bend Symphony hires leaders. We believe in talent and vision and a learning mindset. You are a brilliant operations manager looking for the next step, or a seasoned director waiting for the right organization to try new things. You’re a musician at heart with the organizational and interpersonal skills of an executive. Additionally,
-You have a deep understanding of orchestral operations.
-You have an ability to manage people at all levels of the organization, including significant managing up.
-You have facility with budgets.
-You are highly organized.
-You can understand and act on dense contracts, media rules, and labor agreements, and serve as an expert on these to the board and staff.
-You are a team player.
-You are a self-improver.
