Music Director

The Music Director reports directly to the Board and is responsible for the fulfillment of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra’s (GSO) artistic potential and its image in the community. The Music Director is responsible for the repertoire, programming, and artistic production. The Music Director participates in auditions and has a significant influence (higher percentage of the vote) when selecting new musicians. As the GSO’s artistic leader, she/he must build and sustain the orchestra’s visibility and involvement in the community. The Music Director is expected to work closely with the musicians, Executive Director, GSO staff, and Board President in carrying out these responsibilities.

Candidate background
● 3 years professional conducting experience, recommended
● Degree in music, recommended

Salary and Contract
Multi-year contract at competitive salary and benefits dependent upon experience and availability (expected range competitive in a Group 4 orchestra).
