Ara Harutyunyan has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and an orchestra player in Armenia, Russia, Switzerland, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Syria, United States and Brazil. After the win in national and international competitions and participation in many festivals he appeared as a soloist with several orchestras. Currently he holds position of assistant concertmaster of Philharmonic Orchestra of Minas Gerais.
Born in a family of professional musicians he commenced his musical studies at a very early age. He attended Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory as a full time student and obtained Master’s degree in Music Performance. As an exchange student he studied one year at the Zurich University of the Arts under Professor Rudolf Koelman and later continued his studies at the University of Wyoming under Dr. John Fadial where he has been awarded certificate of Music Performance. He took violin and chamber music masterclasses from professors of Moscow Conservatory A. Anchevskaya, I. Golovina, G. Shirinskaya and Concertmaster of Florida Orchestra Jeffrey Multer among others.
Serving as a Concertmaster of University of Wyoming Symphony and Chamber orchestras he was honored to perform a few concerts under the baton of Gerard Schwarz. He won UW Jacoby student competition and performed as a soloist with UW symphony orchestra led by Michael Griffith. He was also named the National Finalist of MTNA Young Artist String Competition in the United States. Collaborating with professors of the University of Wyoming he participated in several chamber music recitals and was also appointed as a faculty member at the UW String Project program where he taught violin lessons.
As a violin section player of National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia he worked with Christopher Warren-Green, Paul Meyer, Sergei Nakariakov, Steven Isserlis, Julia Fisher, Placido Domingo, Ashley Wass and Krzysztof Penderecki among others. Later he got first violin position of Yerevan String Quartet and had an opportunity to perform classical repertoire as well as contemporary music presenting works by several Armenian and foreign composers. Before joining Philharmonic Orchestra of Minas Gerais he held assistant concertmaster position of Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra in the US. Since moving to Brazil Harutyunyan has taken part in many chamber recitals in the state of Minas Gerais and appeared as a soloist with Philharmonic Orchestra of Minas Gerais.
