Positive COVID test leads to Dallas Symphony, Voices of Change concert cancellations

DSO guest conductor Nicholas McGegan has tested positive for the virus.

A conductor’s positive coronavirus test prompted cancellation of weekend concerts by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the modern-music ensemble Voices of Change.

On Friday morning, DSO musicians learned that guest conductor Nicholas McGegan, who led an all-Mozart concert Thursday night, had tested positive for the virus. Out of caution, the orchestra canceled repeat performances scheduled Friday and Saturday nights. On those evenings, instead, the week’s piano soloist, Hélène Grimaux, was scheduled to join violinist Eunice Keem and cellist Andrés Díaz in chamber works by Schumann, Brahms and Ravel.

In addition, the DSO has canceled Gershwin and youth concerts scheduled next week. Information: 214-849-4376, dallassymphony.org.

The Sunday night Voices of Change concert was canceled because several musicians scheduled to perform had played with the DSO on Thursday. That concert was to be online only, without a live audience. The program has been moved to the group’s next scheduled date, March 7. Information: 214-378-8670, voicesofchange.org.
