George Enescu International Festival Announces New Music Director

Romanian conductor Cristian Măcelaru has been named the new Music Director of the George Enescu International Festival.

Măcelaru will succeed Vladimir Jurowski, who was the previous Music Director and recently became the Bayerische Staatsoper’s Music Director.

Măcelaru is currently the Orchestre National de France’s Music Director and the Principal conductor for the WDR Sinfonieorchester. He is also the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra at Interlochen.

He is currently recording the complete works of George Enescu for Deutsche Grammophon and this season he will make appearances with the Bayerische Staatsoper, DSO Berlin, NDR Hamburg, Bamberg Symphony, Monte Carlo Philharmonic, Luxembourg Philharmonic, Finnish Radio Symphony, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, and National Symphony Orchestra Washington.
