Allison Vulgamore Talks About Leaving the Philadelphia Orchestra

Jessica Griffin
President and CEO of the Philadelphia Orchestra Allison Vulgamore has been in her position since 2010.

On Tuesday, June 20th, Allison Vulgamore announced she will be stepping down as President and CEO of the Philadelphia Orchestra when her contract expires in December, 2017. WRTI’s Debra Lew Harder spoke with her the next day about her biggest achievements as well as the biggest challenges she faced during her tenure with the Orchestra, which began in 2010.

Debra also asked Allison why she is stepping down now, when the Orchestra is generating such excitement in concert halls at home and abroad. They discussed what the future holds, not only for the Orchestra, but for Allison’s own life and career.

Listen as Allison shares her thoughts on leadership, on growing audiences, and on the importance of the Philadelphia Orchestra’s partnership with WRTI.

Debra's last day on the air at WRTI was September 21st, 2021. She's now the radio host for The Metropolitan Opera. Read more here.
