Double Bass:

William Fletcher Darlington 1890

Preis: £6995
English made 3/4 double bass made in Darlington in 1890 (labelled) by Wm Fletcher.
Unfortunately, the corner of the label has been lost but it read Wm. Fletcher.
I believe William Fletcher to have been a skilled wood worker/craftsman but not a professional northern English double bass maker. His approach to making a double bass seems to be influenced by many European styles and a few of his own. I believe this to be the only one made by this particular individual or the only one that's survived.
It has a one-piece Poplar carved back, tightly flamed maple ribs and a nice quality carved spruce front. Both front and back have a distinctive, single strand of maple purfling. Ebony fingerboard/tailpiece, Evah Pirazzi strings, adjustable bridge, and German half plate machines.
Specs;
back length 106cm
string length 106cm
d-neck
rib depth
Top bout width 51cm
This is an unusual and rare instrument and after extensive restoration has become a very compleat instrument.
Certification: n/a
