Assistant Professor of Music Education

We are looking for a dynamic teacher and researcher to provide leadership in instrumental music education for the state, region, and nation. The music education program at the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota land-grant institution, is on the Miní Sóta Makhóčhe, the traditional, ancestral, and contemporary Homelands of Dakhóta Oyáte.

The Twin Cities hosts two world-class orchestras, opera companies, theaters, arts, and choirs. The new Assistant Professor of music will be committed to preparing vibrant teachers from diverse backgrounds who will serve the educational needs of our community for both today and tomorrow. With the Schools' current DEI efforts underway, we are in a position to attract
colleagues who will share our vision for comprehensive music offerings, connecting students to critical real-world experiences, and preparing its students to be leaders in their schools and advocates for the arts and social justice in their communities.

Our program focuses on meeting the legislated requirements for initial teacher certification in music education in Minnesota (Minnesota Rule 8710.2000) and (Minnesota Rule 8710.4650).

A full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor level will teach undergraduate courses as assigned in music education, including instrumental methods; creative applications of technology; student teachers supervision; and coordinate clinical experiences in public schools; advise students; maintain an active schedule of scholarly and creative achievement; and provide service to the institution to the profession.
