London’s Barbican has also today announced the return of live audiences to the Hall when restrictions ease from May 17. To comply with continuing Covid measures, the hall will be reduced to 50 per cent capacity.

Prior to May 17, performances will be available as live stream online concerts – these include such performances as the LSO conducted by Sir Simon Rattle in Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, with mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená and tenor Andrew Staples on May 9, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra performing with its Creative Artist in Association Jules Buckley and singer-songwriter Paul Weller on May 15.

Highlights from the schedule following the Hall’s reopening to audiences include, on June 6, the world premiere of Errollyn Wallen’s new opera Dido's Ghost staring soprano Golda Schultz, while on June 10 the Britten Sinfonia and Thomas Adès present the UK Premiere of Adès’s Shanty – Over the Sea to mark the composer’s 50th birthday. The following weeks see Jonny Greenwood and Anna Meredith performing in their own works on June 19, and the Academy of Ancient Music and Music Director Richard Egarr performing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with violinist Rachel Podger on June 27.
