A cello which is probably of Italian origin from the mid 19th century. It is currently in classical set up with gut strings and a period bridge, tailpiece and end button.

Beautiful in appearance and has a wonderfully clear yet warm sound which carries well for solo and chamber music. Has been used professionally for many years in solo, chamer music and orchestral work. Unique decorated tailpiece.

Two piece back of poplar cut on the slab. Ribs similar. Later neck, pegbox and scroll. Front in two pieces of spruce of very broad grain. Varnish is a rich, dark red brown colour on a yellow ground.
