Precio: £12,000

An unusual looking example of an English 5/8 double bass made in Darlington in 1890 (labelled) by Wm Fletcher.
I believe William Fletcher to have been a skilled wood worker/craftsman but I don’t believe he has any connection with of any of the professional northern English double bass workshops and his approach to making a double bass seems to be influenced by many European styles and a few of his own.
It has a one-piece Poplar carved back, tightly flamed maple ribs and a nice quality carved spruce front.
I have been trying to find out more about this maker with no luck however, I believe it’s the only one in existence
back length 106cm
string length 100cm
rib depth 19cm (not including the front and back)
Smaller size instruments like this generally would be suitable as a chamber bass, solo bass, or for someone who is physically smaller but in this case I believe it has the depth of tone to work well in an orchestra too.
