From 1939, the Bolzano Institute became the Royal Conservatory. It is named after the great name of Claudio Monteverdi and finds a new, spacious, functional and prestigious home in the former Dominican convent in the center of Bolzano. In May 1949 the new Concert Hall of the Conservatory was inaugurated, destined to host the first edition of the "Ferruccio Busoni" International Piano Competition.

In the 50s the Conservatory became the protagonist of all the most important musical initiatives of the city and included in the teaching staff also concert performers of international scrutiny such as Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.
