Ljubomir Milanovic (viola) was born in 1973. He graduated and post graduated in Belgrade, at the Faculty of Music, under the tuition of Prof. Petar Ivanovic. He continued his education in London (England) with Prof. David Takeno, at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Ljubomir has performed as a soloist with Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra of Radio and Television, St. George Strings Chamber Orchestra. He collaborated with highly acclaimed musicians like Gordan Nikolic, Dejan Lazic, Julian Rachlin, Emmanuel Pahud, Andriy Viytovich, Yuri Bashmet, Roman Simovich, Irena Grafenauer, Ilya Grubert, Sreten Krstic, Kiril Rodin, Ksenija Jankovic, Wilfried Strehle, Lorenz Nasturica, Viktor Tretiakov, James Boyd, Louise Hopkins, etc.
His concerts in London took place in some of the greatest halls such as Barbican Center, Wigmore Hall, St. James Piccadilly, Queen Elisabeth Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Guildhall and St. George Roman Catholic Church.
During his rich orchestral career as a principal viola in various orchestras in Serbia and UK, he has collaborated with widely regarded conductors and some of them are Sir Colin Davis, Ion Marin, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Zubin Mehta, Alexander Rahbari, etc.
Ljubomir has performed in the most prestigious halls in Europe - Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Hall, Queen Elisabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Barbican Center, Guildhall of London, Grunwald Munchen-Germany, etc.
He took part in several projects in Europe, with various ensembles. In Denmark, he played with the Det Jyske Ensemble and had tour throughout Denmark, Greece and Syria. In London, he was a guest viola player in the Chamber Orchestra of the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO).
Apart from the standard literature for viola, he is regularly performing contemporary music. Some of the greatest Serbian composers (Zoran Eric, Ivan Jevtic, Svetislav Bozic) have dedicated their music to Ljubomir Milanovic, recognizing him as an artist `with great sense for structure, rich sound and exceptional technique`.
As one of the founders and solo viola of the St. George Strings Chamber Orchestra, he has performed all over former Yugoslavia and Europe. For the last 20 years, he played in more than 1600 concerts with this ensemble. Concerts given by St. George Strings received unanimous acclaims from the audience and laudatory professional reviews, both at home and abroad. Besides published reviews, permanent radio and TV recordings and 17 CDs testify to the high achievements of the orchestra. Ljubomir has participated in festivals in Serbia such as Bemus, Nomus and the International Review of Composers. He has recorded for radio and television.
Ljubomir Milanovic works as a Professor of viola at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade.
