Stefan Ali was born in Albania in 1983.He started his musical studies at the age of 7 at the Musical School of Gjirokaster in the class of Violin with Professor Gj. Spiri. He continued his studies in Greece at the“Tsakalof” Conservatory of Ioannina, where he acquired the Violin Diploma with Excellent in 2002 (class of Gj.Spiri).At the age of 10, he won the 2nd Price at the “Siri Shapllo” competition in Gjirokaster (Albania), for ages 10 to 18 years old. He was also distinguished many times at the Pan-Hellenic Musical School Competitions (Greece).
In 2005 he was admitted at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki in the viola class of K. Mitropoulou and in 2010 he received his Viola Diploma with Honours.
He is currently a graduating student of the Musicology Department Studies of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and from fall 2013 he is a Master student at Royal Conservatory of Gent (Belgium), in the class of Nathan Braude and Diederik Suys. He has attended masterclasses of violin and viola with professors like: Ch. Polyzoidis, G. Hamman, S. Papanas, Ch. Seira, V. Antonov, W. Kossjanenko, C. Cernat, V. Mendelssohn, J. Harrington, M. Zemtsov, S.A. Tepl, M. Dispa, R. Wolfe, L.A. Tomter, S. Baer, I. Van Keulen, V. Bogdanas, P. Holman, A. Tamestit etc.
From 2002 till 2004 he was teaching violin and Music Theory at the “Tsakalof” Conservatory of Ioannina and “Tsakalof” Conservatory of Igoumenitsa (Greece).
In the period 2005 till 2012 he was the Assistant Principal Viola of the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of Kalamaria (Greece).
During 2007 till 2009 he was the Principal Viola of Thessaloniki Youth State Orchestra and also a member of Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra.
In 2008 he was the Principal Viola of Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (France).
From 2012 till 2013 he was teaching Music Theory at the Municipal Conservatory of Asprovalta -Thessaloniki (Greece).
In 2014 till 2016 he participated in many projects with different orchestras in Belgium like: European Philharmonia, La Chapel Sauvage, Frascati Symphony Orchestra, Amaj Jong Symfonisch, etc.
Since September 2016 he moved to Oslo and has been working as instructor for the viola section at the University Symphony Orchestra of Oslo, also he has been working as a violin teacher in Oslo Private Musikkskole and gives private violin and viola lessons in Oslo.
From November 2016 he is on the list as a substitute in viola section at Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.
Currently he is a member of Contra Tempo Chamber Orchestra.
