Bio

Gianluca Saggini.

I’m the Violist of Quartetto Bernini and the Principal Viola of the Chamber ensemble I Solisti Aquilani, with whom I regularly perform also as soloist.
My Teacher was Giusto Cappone, Berliner Philharmoniker Solo Viola under Karajan. Next I studied also overseas under the tutelage of Vladimir Mendelssohn (Essen) and Wilfried Strehle (Berlin).
I collaborated as guest player with the major Italian orchestras (Teatro San Carlo - Solo, Arena di Verona - Solo, Symphonica Toscanini Co-Solo, Filarmonica della Scala - Tutti, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino – Co Solo, conducted by Maazel, Chailly, Muti, Temirkanov, Gergiev, et al.), performing in major concert halls worldwide (Oji Hall – Tokyo, Berliner Philharmonie - Berlin, Auditorium Reina Sofia – Madrid, Teatro alla Scala – Milan) and have collaborated with players and composers, as Allegrini, Berio, Brunello, Carbonare, Coin, Penderecki, Reich, Sollima, Solbiati.
Since 2017 I have joined as an extra-player the Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra.
I also like very much to play on period instruments and I join as guest player the Europa Galante Ensemble.
I currently teach Chamber Music at the State Conservatory of Cosenza (Italy).
I have the privilege to play a viola by the brothers G. & F. Grancino, made in Milan in 1692.
