Opera singer who went nude for role gets probation for child porn

A tenor, who famously appeared naked in a Vivaldi opera, was sentenced to 10 years probation for his child porn habit, The Post has learned.

Zachary Stains, 47, copped to one count of felony possession for the sickening images discovered on his MacBook as part of a plea deal struck in Manhattan Supreme Court.

Authorities took Stains’ laptop from his Upper West Side apartment and allegedly found more than 100 photographs that depict children younger than 16 engaging in sex acts, court papers charge.

He allegedly confessed and told cops, “I would not trust myself” to be alone with a child.

Stains starred in “Ercole sul Termodonte,” Antonio Vivaldi’s version of the Hercules story, at the 2006 Spoleto Festival in Italy. He created quite a buzz when he completely disrobed for an aria in the modern production.

“What is remarkable in this performance is not so much the seeming casualness in Stains’s nudity but that he sings so well in this state,” Fred Plotkin wrote on classical music station WQXR’s Web site.

Defense lawyer Michael Rubin declined to comment.
