Oper Köln Announces New Intendant

By Francisco Salazar

Oper Köln has announced that Hein Mulders will be the new intendant.

Mulders will assume the position at the German house from the 2022-23 season and will take over for Birgit Meyer.

The Dutch intendant began his career as an orchestra manager of the Dutch National Youth Orchestra in Amsterdam and then spent 11 years as casting director of the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp. He also served as artistic director of De Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam and during the 2013-14 season took charge of the Aalto-Theater succeeding Stefan Soltesz. He was also appointed intendant of the Philharmonie in Essen and appointed the Czech Tomáš Netopil as general music director.

Oper Köln is currently closed due to the pandemic and is streaming opera and concert performances. The opera house is expected to open this summer.
