Piano Teacher

• Piano Teacher, the main duty of a piano teacher is to Lead and Teach a studio of 5-8 piano students. Beyond that, a piano teacher should have a comprehensive knowledge of Music theory and history and be able to implement informed teaching practices into their lessons.
• The Piano Teacher will also be teaching in the course Chamber Music and coach at least 3 groups every semester. Extracurricular duties include studio class.
• Piano teacher has the overall responsibility for the quality of the piano students at VMAA.
• A piano teacher should also actively further their understanding and knowledge for music by practicing their craft, and participate in the Faculty or Student Concerts.
• Piano Teachers should also further their pedagogy by reading books from authors such as Wieck, Gieseking, Leimer, Lhevinne, Sandor etc.

PLANNING, TEACHING AND CLASS MANAGEMENT
Teach allocated students and classes by planning their teaching to achieve progression of learning through:
• Identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed
• Preparing and sharing clear pacing guides, year plans, unit plans and lesson plans of high quality in line with stipulated syllabus and course structure
• Working collaboratively in grade level teams to ensure standards and course content is identical for the same course taught by different teachers, and to ensure standards of rigor within a grade level is similar
• Setting tasks which challenge students and ensure high levels of interest
• Setting appropriate and demanding expectations
• Setting clear targets, building on prior attainment
• Be aware of and make provision for students who are SEND, very able, Second Language Learners or who have other particular individual needs
• Providing clear structures for lessons, maintaining pace, motivation and challenge
• Making effective use of assessment and ensure coverage of syllabus
