International Opera Masterclass 2024

The Orchestra of the North Bohemian Theatre

17 - 23 August 2024

This intensive summer training course is aimed to improve the vocal technique of participants and provide them with highly professional advice in interpreting Classical and Romantic opera pieces.
The main goal is to help opera singers with studying and recording the main arias, duets, and scenes of one or several operas selected from the masterclass repertoire list (see the masterclass repertoire below).
The course is intended for professional opera singers, students of musical colleges and academies, as well as for high-level non-professional singers wishing to strengthen their skills in the opera repertoire.
Participants will work with leading opera singers Ingrid Habermann (soprano, Austria) & Marina Shaguch (Czech Republic / the ex-soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia), Maestro Martin Sieghart (Austria) and the operatic coach of the National Theater Brno - Kostiantin Tyshko (the Czech Republic / Ukraine).
The course offers individual voice lessons, interpretation lessons, rehearsals and a concert with the orchestra as well as interactive talks on choosing repertoires, conductor-singer communication and common singers' mistakes at auditions. Participants are expected to attend all lessons and rehearsals.

Voice and interpretation lessons will be focused on enhancing voice stability in higher registers, vibrato, quality legato, and correct breathing to optimize the resonance. Special attention will be paid to controlling muscular activity in a balanced breathing process. Tutors will work on improving singer's pronunciation (if necessary), expression of music phrases, appropriate style interpretation and expressive artistic gestures.
A complete analysis of works and comprehensive approach to your singing act will guarantee a successful path to singer's auditions and future performances!
Tutors answer the main question HOW to get the best result!

10 the best singers will have the opportunity to demonstrate their enhanced skills at the final concert with the orchestra of the North Bohemian Theatre in Ústí nad Labem.
All participants will have an opportunity to record selected pieces for your portfolio in rehearsals with the orchestra.
All orchestra rehearsals and concerts will be video recorded and participants will receive edited videos via online transfer two weeks after the masterclass. Unedited videos will be available immediately and can be copied on your USB memory stick.
A certificate of participation will be issued to all participants who have completed this master class.
