Conductors' Ensemble

The Conductors' Ensemble is a skeleton orchestra of student conductors, observers, and anyone else who wants to learn more about the interaction between conductors and musicians.

As it is an important part of the learning experience, all student conductors are required to play in it on a relevant orchestral instrument or piano when not conducting. (If you cannot offer a relevant instrument to a minimum Grade 8 or equivalent standard, you may be asked to assist with some orchestra management.)

Playing for your colleagues helps you see things from from the orchestra's perspective, gives you deeper insights into the music and allows for more authentic feedback and opportunities for discussion. It is much more useful to practise conducting orchestral instruments than piano alone.

Non-conductors who would like play in the Conductors' Ensemble are very welcome! Simply send an email with some information about yourself and we will be in touch with opportunities.
