Conducting courses

The St Andrews Advanced Conducting Course (18 - 21 July 2024) welcomes emerging conductors of all ages and nationalities to study with Honorary Professor of conducting Sian Edwards. The class will be made up of eight participants; each participant will receive 120 minutes of podium time over the course of the weekend.

The advanced course is taught for two days with conductors working with two pianos (John Longstaff and TBC) and on the third and final day, all participants will conduct a professional string orchestra. Participants will also have an evening with Ben Shute to discuss bowing and style. Video footage from the final day from orchestra can be used for promotional purposes without restriction.

The St Andrews Conducting Workshop runs concurrently with the advanced course and welcomes conductors working in music education or community music.  Experienced musicians interested in learning about conducting are also very welcome. Workshop participants will work with a pianist and small string ensemble.
