Course information
Atso Almila's course is suitable for people who want to supplement their knowledge with orchestra conducting skills. The course provides preparation for hand motor skills, good conducting technique and ensemble practice through tasks of different levels.
In the course, the conductor's work is studied in a variety of ways. Teaching includes e.g. orchestra conducting theory, small group coaching, working with the Seinäjoki City Orchestra and analysis of videos and recordings taken from the work.
The course culminates to a final concert on Thursday 3.10.2024.

Active student: individual work with the Seinäjoki city orchestra (wind and string quintets) 20 minutes a day. Video analysis and feedback discussion about working with the orchestra. Participation in a student conducting band (kapubändi), which can be led by both active and passive students.
Passive student: As a passive student you’ll follow active students' orchestra work and video analyses. Participation in all lectures included in the course. The passive student briefly gets to lead "kapubändi” from Monday to Wednesday. We hope that passive students will also participate in playing in "kapubändi” with their own instruments.
Location
The teaching takes place at the Seinäjoki unit of the University of the Arts Helsinki in Kalevan Navetta (Nyykoolinkatu 25). The final concert is in the Seinäjoki Hall (Kalevankatu 35).

650 € for active students / A reservation fee of 40% of the course fee will be invoiced in advance.
250 € for passive students and lecture attendees / The course fee will be invoiced after the course.
For students and staff of the University of the Arts and students at the Sibelius Academy's Junior Academy participation is free as passive students.
Application period: Apply no later than 31.7.2024 (23.59 EEST). We'll inform you if your application was granted by the mid of August.

Cancellation policy: Registration is binding. If the course participant does not cancel his / her participation no later than two weeks before the start of the course (15.9.2024), the registrant will be charged 40% of the course fee. Cancellations made after the start of the training will be charged in full.
