PHILOSOPHY

The Manhattan International Music Competition has become a major symbol of New York's classical music life. The purpose of the “7th Manhattan International Music Competition” is to discover artists of outstanding personality and provide awards that can launch international careers: recitals at Carnegie Hall, one of the most emblematic venues in the world; a CD recording with worldwide distribution (all costs covered), 5 additional digital albums released through the streaming platforms, cash prizes and many special awards.

This competition has genuinely enhanced the prior winners' professional careers. Previous winners have performed in the most prestigious venues and festivals (Carnegie Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, La Scala, Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall,  Wiener Konzerthaus, Musikverein, Mariinsky Theatre, Royal Opera House, Salzburg Festival, La Monnaie, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Opera de Paris, Lincoln Center, Salzburg Festival, etc.), and have performed as soloists with renowned international orchestras.

Carnegie Hall is a legendary venue where many great artists of the 20th century started their careers. On the other hand, recording a CD and releasing a digital music album is a "must" for a musician in current times: the best credential to find engagements and get music reviews.

This competition aims to find performers with strong artistic personalities and stage presence. The emphasis is, therefore, not on the purely technical aspect of the performance but also on the artistic charisma of the performer.

To avoid travel expenses, the "7th Manhattan International Music Competition" has been designed as an ONLINE COMPETITION so that musicians can show all their potential through video recordings (no travel required to apply). Travelling, live auditions and reference letters are not required… Only the courage to demonstrate through video recordings that the candidate possesses a distinctive personality and remarkable musicality.
