Gustav Mahler Institute Prague in cooperation with the Gustav Mahler Philharmonic Jihlava.

The mission and goal of the competition

is to deepen the interest and motivation of young talented violoncellists to interpret mutual understanding, interpretative confrontation, inspiration and love for music. The personality of the genius conductor and musical composer Gustav Mahler, who lived in Jihlava for the first 15 years of his life and inspired and enriched so much, reminds him of his noble ideas about the mission of music and is a permanent inspiration source and model for young musicians from all over the world.

Dear cellists, dear friends, dear colleagues. 

We have had a wonderful time with time listening to your great performances. On behalf of the whole jury, I must say that we are very pleased with the high level of the competition. The performances of the youngest cellists are incredibly good and some of the young players are already real professionals. My wish for the youngest artists is that they find never-ending inspiration for their artistic and human growth and overcome a difficult age to find musical opportunities. To my older colleagues, I wish that they reach out to their audiences, that they find their place in the musical world, and that in difficult moments they do not forget that music is the most beautiful thing that could ever happen to us.

Applications shall be submitted exclusively electronically by completing an online form at www.mahler.institute (at the end of this page) and paying a registration fee. A certificate of payment of the fee shall accompany the application. Applications may be submitted no later than January 1, 2023. In case of high interest, the organiser reserves the right to terminate receipt of applications before that date.
