Skallsjö International Composing Competition 2024

Skallsjö Sommarorkester proudly present the second edition of S.I.C.C.

**Application below**

Composers of all ages and nationalities are invited to submit an original work for string orchestra. The winning composition will be played during Skallsjö Sommarorkesters Europe tour in the summer of 2025. The winner will be invited to a concert of their choice during the tour*. All participants will be notified of the results in November 2024.

Submission guidelines:

• The piece should be approximately 10 minutes.

• Pieces dedicated to the competition are appreciated but not mandatory, already premiered pieces are allowed.

• Instrumentation is 11 violins, 4 violas, 4 celli and 2 double basses.

• The work should be submitted with pdf-score and MIDI-file or recording.

• Deadline October 1 2024.

• Fee 25 euros per piece.

Selection process:

• Entries will be evaluated by a panel of musicians from the orchestra

• Judging criteria include originality, creativity and overall artistic merit.

About the orchestra
Skallsjö Sommarorkester is a young professional string orchestra, aiming to show a new side of classical music to a new audience. From the first project in 2013 the ensemble rapidly advanced to become a force of its own in Swedish musical life, especially regarding the “rebranding” of classical music. The orchestra’s focus points are about communication, personality and fun, and enjoy exploring the boundaries between musical genres. All musicians are under the age of 30 and the ensemble plays without a conductor.
