Cutter/Draper

The Cutter/Draper is responsible for patterning and cutting assigned costumes to be built by the costume shop at Houston Ballet. Working in collaboration with the Head of Costumes and Costume Shop Manager, they evaluate materials and labor requirements for each production throughout the season. Their role is centered on supporting the artistic vision and collaboratively bringing costume designs to life. This position operates under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Local #896.

Stitcher

Stitchers at Houston Ballet are responsible for the sewing and alterations of costumes. They are integral to bringing the artistic vision of each production to life, working collaboratively and creatively to execute costume designs. This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Local #896, ensuring fair and standardized working conditions.

Public Relations (PR) Intern

Summer Internship

Houston Ballet offers exciting internship opportunities to both undergraduate and graduate students throughout the year on an ongoing basis. The Marketing & PR Intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in many aspects of Houston Ballet’s Marketing department. Summer Intensive Pianist

Academy

Under minimal supervision, the Academy Summer Intensive Pianist provides accompaniment for Houston Ballet’s school, called the Academy. The Houston Ballet Academy’s 2024 Summer Intensive is a 5-week program and runs June 15-July 20, 2024. Travel to/from Houston, housing, and a weekly stipend will be provided. *Minimum: 5 years of experience playing advanced level ballet technique classes required for consideration.

Special Events Associate

Part-Time

The Special Events Associate role is responsible for multiple projects within Houston Ballet's signature fundraising events and Nutcracker Market special events.

Institutional Giving Coordinator

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Institutional Giving, the Institutional Giving Coordinator provides administrative support to the Institutional Giving team and is responsible for timely gift acknowledgment and coordinating benefits fulfillment for donors. A successful candidate will have strong communication and organization skills, as well as an interest in the arts.

The Institutional Giving team oversees a portfolio of 70+ dedicated corporate, foundation, and government funders and is responsible for raising $3-5 million annually to support the mission, work, and goals of Houston Ballet.

Academy Resident Dorm Supervisor

The Resident Dorm Supervisor oversees student life and ensures student health, wellness and safety in the Center for Dance Dormitory.   This is a full-time, live-in position.   The Resident Dorm Supervisor is provided with salary plus benefits plus housing in downtown Houston.   

The housing is the Residential Dorm Supervisor apartment (~600 sq. ft.) located in Houston’s Theatre District, with the following amenities:

Annual Fund Manager

Full-Time

Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, the Annual Fund Manager contributes to fundraising efforts on behalf of Houston Ballet by providing donors and prospective donors (up to the Ambassador level) opportunities to contribute to and engage with the Ballet. Through data-driven direct mail campaigns, annual fund donor events and management of a personal portfolio of donors and prospects, this position is an integral part of the Individual Giving team and its goal to build a community of dance enthusiasts.

Summer Chaperone

Resident Advisor

The Summer Chaperones / Dorm Resident Advisors are responsible for ensuring student safety and creating an engaging environment for pre-professional dancers residing at the University of St. Thomas dormitory. Houston Ballet houses 130+ students in this dormitory for the duration of the Summer Intensive ProgramChaperones will move in approximately one week prior to the start of the program and participate in a comprehensive orientation and training with Houston Ballet Academy Staff and partner organizations. Chaperones need to be available for in-person work in Houston from Saturday, June 8 – Saturday, July 20, 2024.

Part-Time Seasonal Sales Associate

We are looking for a Seasonal Sales Associate to help in Houston Ballet retail store. In this role, you will greet customers and provide them with product information or suggestions. Your other tasks involve keeping the sales floor clean, organized, and stocked with inventory. Since this is our busy season, we serve a high number of customers throughout the day. Employees must follow company policy and uphold brand standards at all times. Seasonal hourly salary starts at $15.00/ 40 hours per week. 

Part-time Customer Service Representative

The Customer Service Representative (CSR) is responsible for delivering general Marketplace information to callers. 

Our part-time customer service positions pay $15 per hour.

The CSRs use basic office equipment and technology such as telephones, email, and web browsers to perform their duties. The CSRs assume ticket order responsibility and processing of payments during performances and throughout the work week.

Academy Class Monitor

Part-Time

This is a part-time, in-person position located in downtown Houston, Texas. The position pays $15 per hour.

Academy Class Monitors will help ensure the safety and security of Houston Ballet Academy students at the Center for Dance, located in downtown Houston. Academy Class Monitors will handle COVID-19 screening and implement Academy health and safety procedures.  All Houston Ballet employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Hours for the position range from 15-25 per week, depending on availability.
