Cardiff Singer of the World Announces 2021 Winners

The Cardiff Singer of the World has announced the winners of the 2021 competition.

The winner of the main prize went to baritone Gihoon Kim who took the Cardiff Trophy and £20,000.

Meanwhile, the Dame Joan Sutherland Audience Prize went to Claire Barnett-Jones who won £2,500 and a crystal trophy.

Kim has performed at the Glyndebourne Festival and at Bayerische Staatsoper and has won second prizes in both the Tchaikovsky and Operalia competitions.

Barnett-Jones has performed at the Grange Festival, Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, Wigmore Hall, Birmingham Opera Company and BBC Proms.

On the Thursday July 17, the Song Prize went to South African soprano ⁦Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha.

The jury was led by Aidan Lang, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, John Gilhooly, Neal Davies, and Roberta Alexander.
