Deborah Borda is going from Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl to Harvard.

Ms. Borda, who as president and chief executive of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for the past 15 years has presided over an era of growth that has made the orchestra the envy of its peers, announced Monday that she would take a four-month sabbatical beginning in September to join the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School.

At the center she will be a Hauser leader-in-residence.

“It is a privilege to be asked to develop leaders of the future and to further explore the role of the arts in society and cultural entrepreneurism,’’ Ms. Borda said in a statement, adding that she looked forward to returning to the orchestra “refreshed and filled with new ideas.”

Diane B. Paul, the chairwoman of the board of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, said in a statement that “we are delighted to know that she will have a role in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.”
