Marian Benardo 2005 Red Varnish. J Larkman Bridge. Whole Back. Black Fittings, rosewood chinrest.
Stolen: 31 Jan 2013 - London, E17
Description of Instrument:
This Viola was taken from my car parked on College Place, London, E17 3PY on Thursday 31st January 2013 between 8am and 3:30pm. The Viola is a full size and is mounted with Dominant strings (purple thread at the peg box/scroll) The pegs and tail piece are ebony wood, and the chinrest is large and made from rosewood. The Viola has patches where the varnish is wearing thin and ‘congealing’ on each of the instrument’s shoulders (more so on the shoulder on the treble side). The pictures above show this detail, but the varnish is much more worn away now from when the pictures were taken. There too is a rounded patch on the back of the instrument where there appears to be no ‘red’ varnish – either a reaction with the wood or an effect done by the luthier. The Viola was kept in a BAM High-Tec, shaped case, black in colour.
