  • stolen/missing: 4/4 Viola, ~2003 finished by Clas Reimers

    16 Dec 2015 - ~ 11:50 am - In a S1 Train from Frankfurt Höchst to Ober-Roden - Germany

    Information

The lost--property-office has confirmed that they found no instrument in the train. Which means that it has left the train within 30 minutes after the departure in Höchst.

    Description and Notable features

Hi my 4/4 Viola (approx. 2003) is missing. It has gone missing yesterday morning while travelling with the S1 in Frankfurt (FFM). Despite it being a 4/4, it is relatively small. The brigde bears a signature by Clas Reimers (http://www.reimers-geigenbau.de/) The varnish is just starting to lose its shine (light chestnut red). Also, it is stringed with obligatos. The chinrest is black and the tuning pegs are wooden with a little black knob on them. The bow is looking like your typical average wooden bow with a pastille, but the pad is moveable. The viola case is black and worn down. Inside you can find a special cloth for cleaning (beige) and deep blue velvet cover. I am already missing my instrument and would be glad if anyone who sees it could help me find it. Regards and best luck to all on this site, Ricardo

  • stolen/missing: 15 1/2 inches viola

    07 Nov 2015 - Duluth Georgia - United States

    Information

    Description and Notable features

I lost it at my church on November 2nd after playing in a small recital. It isn't worth much compared to other instruments ($1,200) but it holds alot of sentimental value for me. My church is in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, but my instrument could be anywhere by now. The instrument itself is from Ronald Sach Violins in Atlanta Georgia. it should have 2 straps and a tag with my name on it but if it was stolen, its probably taken off. There is only one bow inside and the interior of the case is a royal blue. Please help! Thanks

Person arrested & did time for other items from same burglary was living in Steger, IL at the time. Part of burglary/drug ring that breaks into homes. Broke down our back door with crow bar. Had male accomplist. Refused to tell police where she had disposed of viola. More than one was stolen but only interested in getting back my Becker. The other was a student viola. Caught trying to pawn some gold jewelry of mine.

    Description and Notable features

16 1/2 inch (42.1 cm cm) Viola made by Carl Becker in 1982. Upper Bouts:7 23/32nd inches/19.6 cm Middle Bouts: 5 ¼”inches/13.3 cm Lower Bouts: _9 ¾ inches/24.8 cm, The Stop Length is 222.5 cm The back: 2 piece ¼ cut maple with medium curl slanted downward from the center joint The Front is in 2 pieces Grain:fine/medium Finish: Deep Orange Red. It was made to order, and I had him tone down the usual bright orange tint. It is still orange, but not as dramatic as some of his other creations. "770-1982 Carl Becker and Son" is on the label inside the viola. It has a Menuhin shoulder support attached. The viola was in a baby blue silk bag with drawstring and inside of a rectangular case. The inside of the case was royal blue plush. This was the usual case they use at Becker’s, including a humidifier tube. Outside hard case in a water-proof royal blue cloth zipper cover, & a zipper music pocket.

  • stolen/missing: Marian Benardo 2005 Red Varnish. J Larkman Bridge. Whole Back. Black Fittings, rosewood chinrest.

    31 Jan 2013 - London, E17 - United Kingdom

    Information

    Description and Notable features

This Viola was taken from my car parked on College Place, London, E17 3PY on Thursday 31st January 2013 between 8am and 3:30pm. The Viola is a full size and is mounted with Dominant strings (purple thread at the peg box/scroll) The pegs and tail piece are ebony wood, and the chinrest is large and made from rosewood. The Viola has patches where the varnish is wearing thin and ‘congealing’ on each of the instrument’s shoulders (more so on the shoulder on the treble side). The pictures above show this detail, but the varnish is much more worn away now from when the pictures were taken. There too is a rounded patch on the back of the instrument where there appears to be no ‘red’ varnish – either a reaction with the wood or an effect done by the luthier. The Viola was kept in a BAM High-Tec, shaped case, black in colour.
