The Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra, Inc. (PTSO) in Port Townsend, Washington, seeks a new Conductor and Artistic Director to take up the baton starting with our 2027-2028 season. Tigran Arakelyan, our conductor of nine years, will be leaving after this season’s final concert in April 2026. We are grateful for his tremendous contributions to our orchestra.
PTSO was formed almost 40 years ago. We are a non-profit, volunteer symphony orchestra based in Jefferson County, Washington, dedicated to entertaining, inspiring and engaging our community through musical excellence and affordable concerts. Concerts feature a roster of about 60 regular players.
PTSO’s season consists of four free concerts in October, December, February and April.
Application Process
PTSO will accept applications from prospective conductors November 2025 through February 2026. Interviews will be held with qualified applicants. Four finalists will be chosen; each finalist will rehearse and perform one concert during the 2026-2027 season with the goal of appointing a new music director for the 2027-2028 season and beyond. Finalists will receive financial compensation for the concert they conduct during the 2026-2027 season. The successful candidate will be chosen after the final concert of that season.
