Sofia Philharmonic announces an audition for the position of Assistant Principal Viola (Second Assistant Principal) with the National Philharmonic Orchestra at the Bulgaria Concert Hall Complex, Sofia, Bulgaria.

The position is based on a work schedule under a summarized calculation of working time, with an 8-hour working day and a five-day working week.

Applicants must hold at least a secondary music education diploma.

Gross monthly salary: EUR 1,550.

The audition for shortlisted candidates will take place before an audition committee on 11 September 2026.

The audition will be held with piano accompaniment. Upon request, the Sofia Philharmonic can provide candidates with the contact details of an accompanist. Any fees for the accompanist's services shall be borne by the candidate.

Johann Sebastian Bach – One slow movement and one fast movement from the Cello Suites (arranged for viola).
Carl Stamitz or Franz Anton Hoffmeister – Viola Concerto, First Movement (without cadenza).

George Enescu – Romanian Rhapsody No. 1: solo from rehearsal number 7 to rehearsal number 8.
Giacomo Puccini – Intermezzo from the opera Manon Lescaut.
Edward Elgar – Enigma Variations: solos from Variations VI and X.
Orchestral Excerpts
Richard Strauss – Ein Heldenleben: from the upbeat to rehearsal [94] to six bars before [98].
Richard Strauss – Don Juan:the first six bars from the beginning;
from two bars before rehearsal letter A to rehearsal letter B.
Felix Mendelssohn – Symphony No. 3, Second Movement: from rehearsal letter F to the third bar after rehearsal letter G.
Felix Mendelssohn – Scherzo from A Midsummer Night's Dream:from rehearsal letter C to rehearsal letter D;
from the ninth bar of rehearsal letter H to the twelfth bar of rehearsal letter I.
Maurice Ravel – Daphnis et Chloé, Suite No. 2: from rehearsal [158] to [164].
