City of Kyoto Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1956 under the management of the Kyoto City Government as the only orchestra managed by a public authority in Japan.
In April 2015, City of Kyoto Symphony Orchestra received the 46th Suntory Music Award, one of Japan's most prestigious prizes in musical achievement.
