Schuster & Co. cello, Markneukirchen, Germany, 1919

Fine German cello by Schuster & Co., Markneukirchen, built in 1919, with remarkable provenance connected to Prof. Tadeusz Melka. He played this cello in his youth, including during his studies at the music high school in Kalisz, and later retained it for sentimental reasons. In 1985, in Wrocław, he made a light correction to the instrument under the supervision of a respected luthier, intended to preserve and improve its playing qualities. The interior retains the original Schuster & Co. label dated 1919 and a later handwritten label referring to the 1985 correction by T. Melka. The cello features beautifully figured maple on the back and ribs and an attractive warm amber-brown varnish. Its provenance has been verified directly at source. The instrument has also been professionally assessed by a luthier.
