Part time (0.5 FTE) continuing. Opportunity to be involved in both teaching and research at Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Academic B Base Salary $127,436 - $151,328 p.a. pro rata + 17% superannuation.
The Sydney Conservatorium of Music has long been the destination of choice for outstanding viola students. The strong cohort of local and international students benefits from a viola faculty that includes leading pedagogues Roger Benedict and Stuart Johnson, and a vibrant string faculty that is the largest in Australia. The Sydney Conservatorium is now looking for an outstanding viola player and pedagogue to join the faculty and contribute to the culture of excellence that currently exists within the institution.
The successful candidate will be an insightful and inspiring musician with substantial performing and teaching experience at an international level, and someone who is able to work collaboratively and imaginatively to ensure the institution remains a beacon of music education in Australia. In addition to giving individual lessons, duties will include sharing responsibility for leading a weekly viola class and also chamber music coaching and/or orchestral training.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
plan, foster and develop the training of violists at the University and develop performance curriculum in close cooperation with faculty members within the University
contribute importantly to professional practice and/or research outcomes in the area of viola performance
contribute to teaching and training in chamber music, orchestra studies and string pedagogy
build an inspiring learning and working environment for the students and teachers of viola performance
inspire young students including pre-tertiary music students, community teachers and orchestras and support the development of viola teaching in community and outreach programs
contribute to the development of international student recruitment.
