Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, string instruments section, is seeking to appoint a
Tenure-track-professor for cello (d/f/m)
as soon as possible.
The position is classified as pay grade BesGr. W2 NBesO with tenure-track leading to pay grade Bes Gr. W 2 NBesO (100%) with a teaching load of 12 hours per week before the interim report and 18 hours per week after the midterm report.
The position:
We are seeking a candidate who has established a distinguished reputation of international stature in the concert world and is capable of passionately and competently preparing students for a career as a musician with its modern demands.
The future position holder will be responsible for major-level instruction in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in artistic training as well as in the solo class, and will contribute to the further development of the artistic programs and artistic teaching. Involvement in the pedagogical programs is possible.
Particular emphasis is placed on the future incumbent’s involvement in ensemble work at the HMTMH (chamber music, university orchestra, opera, early and contemporary music, as well as ensemble projects).
Collaboration on the goals for the development of the artistic degree programs as described in the current master plan is required.
Your profile:
To fulfil the above-mentioned tasks, the following requirements are mandatory:
- Completed degree (at least a Master’s) as Cellist
- Demonstration of outstanding artistic achievement, such as through several years of concert activity
- Pedagogical aptitude and verifiable teaching experience
- International appeal and visibility
Desirable qualifications include:
- An understanding of the modern professional landscape for young musicians in its diverse forms (orchestra, chamber music, stylistic specialization, freelance concert activity, etc., as well as teaching)
- A broad personal range of experience in these areas
- The willingness and ability to continually expand this range of experience.
Active and responsible participation in academic self-administration at both departmental and university levels is expected. We expect a high level of commitment, strong communication skills, the ability to work well in a team and integrate with others, and gender sensitivity.

If the general civil service requirements are fulfilled, employment will initially be on a fixed-term civil service contract for a period of five years. If the outcome of the procedure defined in the HMTMH’s regulations on the appointment of tenured professors through the tenure-track process, the candidate will be appointed to a tenured W 2 professorship without a further call for application.
