Cello labelled Lockey Hill, Islington, 1790

This is a beautiful late 18th cello with label "Lockey Hill MAKER Islington 1790". It's in good condition. It was valued in 2014 by J P Guivier for insurance purposes at £60,000. Guivier considered it to be by Lockey Hill and to be "in a good state of preservation". Rod Ward saw it in 1982 and wrote 'In my opinion:- this cello is by Lockey Hill, and bears its original label dated Islington 1790. LOB 29"'. I have his written assessment. There is a Hill number on the fingerboard so it must have been in the Hill workshop at some point in its life. It has a sweet tone, good resonance, and a variety of colour in the sound.
