Early 20th-century German full-size violin

A full-size violin, believed to be German and made in the early 20th century, according to a check carried out by Cambridge Violin Makers, who also found it to be in good playable condition and assessed its value.

It has a bridge stamped Colin G. Nicholls, a Wittner tailpiece with four fine tuners and functional rosewood pegs. The internal label reads: Nicolaus Amatius Cremoniea Hieroni - mi Filius Antoni Nepos fecit 1676.

It has a warm, rich tone, with an even sound across all four strings.

The violin presents well overall. The length of the back is 355mm, measured along the body without the neck or button. There is a small scratch on the upper right of the front and faint surface scratches on both sides, shown in the photographs. No repairs are known to me.

Included are two usable bows without visible maker’s stamps, a hard leather-bound case with blue velvet-style interior, spare strings and a small tuner.

Certification: Cambridge Violin Makers checked it and confirmed it's playable and as described. Its internal label appears to refer to Nicolaus Amatius 1676 but this does not authenticate its maker, origin or age.
