About the Primary Years Programme (PYP)
The CYM Primary Years Programme is a progressive four-year programme for children in school Years 1–4. At the core of the programme are group musicianship classes, which provide the foundation for each child’s musical journey and build progressively each year.
In Year 1, children take part in a full year of musicianship training before choosing an instrument to study in future years. From Years 2–4, children attend a range of classes, including instrumental lessons and ensembles, bringing together musicianship and performance as they move through the programme.
Through singing, playing, creating, listening and movement, students are introduced to the building blocks of music in a fun and nurturing environment. The programme supports children to develop confidence, communication skills and musical understanding as they begin their journey as young musicians.
