International Martini Organ Competition Groningen

02 - 08 Aug, 2026

In the summer of 2026 the fourth edition of the International Martini Organ Competition Groningen (IMOCG) will be held in the city of Groningen. The IMOCG is a competition in three rounds, with a preliminary round online. The submissions will be reviewed by a committee consisting of three esteemed professional organists, who will select 12 contestants. If you are not selected you can get detailed feedback on request.

The contestants perform on historical organs in the Akerk and the Martinikerk in Groningen, and in the Nicolaïkerk in the nearby town of Appingedam. In the finals, the three finalists will play on the famous Martini organ. The winners are awarded with certificates, cash prizes and invitations to give concerts on monumental organs.
The international jury consists of five concert organists.

The competition is open to professional organists or organ students born after 31 December, 1990.

This competition appears to include an online round that charges over €35. musicalchairs is concerned that the fee for online judging must be commensurate with the value offered to applicants whether they are successful or unsuccessful. Please therefore study the guidelines for this competition carefully:

  • Is the Jury for the online round published and are they widely respected musicians?
  • Does each Jury member listen to the submissions in full?
  • Do applicants receive detailed and considered feedback about their complete performance/score from the Jury?
