Conducting Opera Intensive | Juilliard Extension

The successful opera conductor needs a well-integrated understanding of singing, staging and orchestral playing as well as detailed score and text preparation and deft hands. This 3-day intensive session comprises six 3-hour sessions. In the morning, participants meet collectively to discuss and test-drive the repertoire while receiving guidance from the instructor. In the afternoon, each participant will have approximately 10 minutes of podium time with singer(s), pianist, and string quintet.

Repertoire will be communicated in advance to registered students and will include selections from standard literature in English, French, German, and Italian. This course is intended for students who can read music fluently and have prior conducting experiences. Participants should expect to sing as well as conduct.
