Leader of St Albans Symphony Orchestra

(par session, permanent)

St Albans Symphony Orchestra (SASO) invites applicants for the role of Leader.

SASO aims to be one of the UK’s leading non-professional orchestras, attracting high-calibre players. We perform six concerts per year in St Albans, including a New Year's Day spectacular in St Albans Abbey, and Family Concerts. Daniel Hogan will take over as Artistic Director in September 2026 and has set an exciting and ambitious repertoire for the season. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings, 7:30 to 10 at St Albans United Reformed Church.

The successful applicant will possess a high degree of musical ability and suitable professional experience and will need to work effectively with the Artistic Director. They will engage with, advise and motivate members to bring out our best performance and enhance our enjoyment of the art we all love.

More information, including a role description, will be found on our website. If you need to discuss the role further via email or phone, please contact Simon Allen, SASO Chair on chair@saso.org.uk.

Please send your CV and a covering statement about your interest and suitability for the position to info@saso.org.uk. You may also choose to send a 2-3 minute video of you playing a concerto or sonata excerpt to demonstrate your artistry. The closing date is Monday 15th June at 5pm.

We will contact all candidates, create a shortlist, and aim to conduct auditions/interviews in person (online if necessary) by the middle of July.

SASO is an equal opportunities society.
