Professor of Conducting (Education Focused)

The Professor of Conducting (Education Focused) will be involved in the artistic leadership of the Conservatorium focusing on our large ensembles program and conducting pedagogy. Recognised with an international reputation as a creative leader in conducting, the areas of conducting experience will include a focus on wind symphony, large ensemble music (including non-western music such as Chinese music ensemble), musical theatre and opera, newly composed music, and the emerging music styles of the twenty-first century. The successful applicant will join a conducting team that already has expertise in opera, symphonic music, and choral music. A key role will be the development of conducting programs in our undergraduate regular curriculum, postgraduate student conductors, and conductors in the community.

The Professor of Conducting (Education Focused) will have experience in a wide range of genres and styles and will have held extensive professional conducting roles and/or experience conducting high quality tertiary student ensembles.

The Professor of Conducting (Education Focused) dedicates the majority of their contribution to teaching and teaching-related activities (up to 70%), with a minimum of 20% research and 10% governance, service, and engagement. Additionally, you will mentor junior academics, providing advice on teaching methodologies, education research approaches, publications, and career advancement.

The Professor of Conducting (Education Focused) will be recognised internationally as a leading expert in educational design and delivery, with a notable track record for enhancing student outcomes, pioneering educational innovations, and contributing to respected research in the field. They will have been acknowledged for their educational excellence through various awards and their ability to secure external funding for research.
