Preisner Scoring Competition

24 - 27 Jun, 2026

Preisner Scoring Competition is a new international competition for young composers of film and illustrative music, created and led by Zbigniew Preisner. The 2026 edition takes place in Bielsko-Biała, Poland. Participants are invited to compose a 10–15 minute orchestral work inspired by Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s The Tower of Babel. The competition is open to composers of all nationalities aged 18–35, with no more than one IMDb credit as composer or orchestrator.

Applicants must submit an online form, short bio, mp3 mockup, full score (PDF + source file), orchestral parts, optional electronic layer, and proof of payment. Works must be original, written specifically for the competition, and created without AI tools.

The Grand Prix is EUR 25,000 plus professional recordings of all 10 finalist works. Final concerts take place in June 2026.
scadenza: 28 Feb 2026

This competition appears to include an online round that charges over €35. musicalchairs is concerned that the fee for online judging must be commensurate with the value offered to applicants whether they are successful or unsuccessful. Please therefore study the guidelines for this competition carefully:

  • Is the Jury for the online round published and are they widely respected musicians?
  • Does each Jury member listen to the submissions in full?
  • Do applicants receive detailed and considered feedback about their complete performance/score from the Jury?
