About the role
Following the needs of the artistic programme, the definitions of ENB’s house agreement with The Musicians’ Union and working to the priorities set by the Music Director or Orchestra Manager, the postholder will perform consistently to the highest standards in rehearsal and performances. The role also includes liaising with the orchestra manager to maintain up to date fixing lists and consult on the booking of any freelance musicians for the section.
Our touring schedule includes London, regional venues in the UK and may include touring abroad. Other events may be arranged to support the work of the Engagement Department.
Key Selection Criteria
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate these qualities and experience:
- Proven track record of professional experience in a world class leading ballet/symphonic/opera orchestra as 1st Oboe
- Demonstrated ability to excel with a range of repertoire including new work.
- Ability to adapt to the requirements of the schedule of a touring orchestra.
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as manage a section including freelance extra players.
As part of the recruitment process shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an in-person audition. Auditions will be held on 3rd and 4th June 2025.
Successful candidates will be invited to attend a paid trial which will begin in Autumn 2025. The appointment will be under the terms and conditions as they are defined in ENB’s House Agreement with The Musicians’ Union.
Attached you will find an excerpts book to prepare for the audition. There will also be an accompanied piece; this will be Mozart Oboe Concerto, 1st and 2nd Movements.
Other applicants who were not successful for this position, may be considered for future work as Deputies or Extras and may be selected for audition.
