Assistant Conductor

The Philadelphia Orchestra seeks an Assistant Conductor beginning with the 2026–27 season. The Assistant Conductor serves as an assistant and cover conductor to Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, as well as to Principal Guest Conductor Marin Alsop and Composer-In-Residence Joe Hisaishi, and an unparalleled roster of esteemed guest conductors in Philadelphia, on international tours, and in summer residencies. The Assistant Conductor may have the opportunity to conduct select educational, community, summer, and special concerts, with the possibility for additional podium time based on experience.

The Assistant Conductor also provides general artistic consultation, assists in the preparation of major artistic projects and productions, and reviews recorded material for commercial release and broadcast. The Assistant Conductor conducts or leads educational events such as PlayINs, Side-by-Sides, and PopUP concerts with Philadelphia Orchestra musicians. Other duties include hosting post-concert talkbacks for the Orchestra After 5 programs, pre-concert lectures for the subscription series concerts, artist interviews, cultivation events, and other audience engagement activities.

Eligibility
All candidates must be:
• Able to obtain work authorization in the United States;
• Available to participate in an in-person audition and interview in Philadelphia on Tuesday, April 28, 2026; and,
• Available to accept full-time employment for the entire 2026-2027 season, beginning September 2026.
