Pubb: 20 mar 2026
Residentie Orkest The Hague
Principal viola (75%) & Associate principal viola (75%)
(a tempo parziale, a tempo indeterminato)
Requirements for the position
It goes without saying that you must be a distinguished violist, with excellent skills as an orchestral and ensemble player. In addition, especially in the role of principal, you are a natural, coaching leader who knows how to lead and inspire the group. It goes without saying that we expect performance and professional etiquette to be of the highest standard.
We regard it as essential that every player is an ambassador for our orchestra and, as well as concert appearances, will cooperate in social and educational activities and ensemble settings. You are a team player with positive attitude who can strike the right balance between individuality and sectional playing.
Applications and procedure
Please submit your application no later than 29 April 2026, using a fully completed application form, for which you can find the template on our website at www.residentieorkest.nl/werken-bij.
The auditions for this position will be held on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 June 2026.
Compulsory works:
- Own choice between Carl Stamitz Viola Concerto in D (1st movement with cadenza) or Franz Anton Hoffmeister Viola Concerto in D (1st movement with cadenza);

- Bach: Sarabande from 1st or 2nd Cello Suite;
- Beethoven: String Trio in c minor op 9 nr 3 (1st movement) performed in the final round with members of the Residentie Orchestra;
- Orchestral excerpts yet to be determined.
The selection committee reserves the right to make a pre-selection from those submitting written applications. An application interview will be an important part of the selection process.
