Third Horn

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Third Horn.

This is a full-time, contract position.

Based in Poole, Dorset, the BSO perform extensively across the south and south-west of England, nationally and internationally, and deliver an extensive range of education and community work, through its award-winning Participate department.

The Orchestra’s Chief Conductor is Mark Wigglesworth; Leader Amyn Merchant.

Successful applicants will either be invited to submit an initial screened video audition or be invited directly to live screened auditions, based on demonstrable experience on applications. Those who are successful in the video round will also be invited to live auditions.

Live auditions will be held in Poole/Bournemouth in the Summer/Autumn 2026. Please check back to see confirmed dates.

Audition repertoire:

· Strauss Horn Concerto 1 – first movement

· Mozart Horn Concerto 4 – first movement (exposition only)

· Excerpts will be sent to candidates who are invited to audition

· Sight-reading may be given
