Acting Section Viola

We are pleased to announce that the North Carolina Symphony is now accepting tape auditions for the Acting Section Viola Position.

Please submit a video recording of the posted repertoire list to be considered. The repertoire list will be posted on our website on or before June 19. Rental excerpts will be provided upon request.

Please follow the recording guidelines outlined below and let us know if you have any questions. Musicians taking this audition should only do so with the intention of accepting the position if it is offered.

Recording guidelines:

1. It is preferred that the recording be submitted as an MP4 file shared using Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive. If these formats are not possible, please send email to the address below to discuss other options.
2. The excerpts must be recorded in one continuous take.
3. The excerpts must be played in the order of the list.
4. The applicant should be in the frame for the entire duration, and there should be no speaking during the recording.

Recording links may be sent to auditions@ncsymphony.org. Please include “Viola Tape” in the subject line. Recordings will be reviewed and converted to audio-only recordings (anonymized) by staff before being reviewed by the committee.

All materials are due by July 19, 2026. Materials received after this deadline will not be considered. We hope to notify candidates with results by July 28-30, 2026..

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The 2026/27 season is 40 weeks, plus 18 optional summer services at the position per-service rate. The minimum salary for the position is $1,883.52/week ($75,340.80 annual/40 wks, plus EMG and Ancillary payments). Benefits include 9% employer retirement contribution – 403 (b), medical, life, and instrument insurance.

Intended employment to begin on or before September 14, 2026, or at the earliest mutually agreed upon date, with satisfactory USCIS employment eligibility verification.
