New Zealand Assistant Conductor in Residence- 2026

Are you an emerging professional conductor looking for valuable experience both on and off the podium? New Zealand’s network of professional orchestras has an opportunity for you.

Assist the Music Directors and guest conductors of the participating orchestras throughout the 2025 season. This position will also benefit from mentoring by the Music Directors and from working with the senior artistic management teams at the orchestras to gain experience, insight and understanding into the workings of a professional orchestra. Conducting work will also be available according to the suitability of the successful candidate.
This independent contractor role is remunerated at $1,538.46 NZD per week for 45 weeks of the 2026 Season, from 9 February to 20 December 2026, and requires the postholder to be resident in Auckland and to travel around the country as necessary during the 2026 concert season.
